Portraits

Usually portraits of animals, but occasionally people

I prefer to take pictures in natural light in places where the subject is comfortable and happy. That could mean taking pictures in your living room, backyard, or a nearby park, depending on what you and/or your your animal prefer.

A portrait session lasts anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on how cooperative the subject decides to be. Before taking a single picture I take the time to learn a little about the subject's personality, so I can capture a portrait that is not only beautiful but meaningful. That time also lets the subject get to know me a little, which helps make the session more relaxed for everyone.

For animals, it helps if you have some favorite treats and toys available, and an area to take pictures where the animal is unlikely to hide. Unless you want pictures of the cat under the sofa, in which case I'll try and work with that!

If you want to be in the portrait or want to include multiple pets that's fine, too. It will take longer to get usable pictures the more subjects there are, but I am very patient.

A portrait session costs a flat fee of $150. That price includes travel in the DC area or the upper Shenandoah Valley area to your location of choice, online proofs of all usable pictures, your choice of one photo edited to print at 8" x 10" (as a printable electronic file), and email-sized electronic files of the edited pose and 10 more of your favorites. Additional downloads, prints and merchandise (t-shirts, mugs, etc) are available at additional cost.
